How to avoid a rusty anchor chain

Has your anchor chain ever ended up as a ball of rust at the bottom of your chain locker? It's easy to extend the life of your chain and anchor winch by regularly cleaning the mud and weed from the bottom of the chain locker and cleaning out the drains. Blocked drains will leave your chain in a bath of salt water which will prematurely dissolve the galvanising.
When you wash your boat down at the end of your trip also hose out the chain locker with fresh water, including the winch motor and leave a stubby holder in the hatch for the locker to vent to avoid sweating.
