Hey Everyone!
In this video we will discuss the opinion on whether or not you should wait to buy the ROG Ally X or even at all.
This video shows off some data leaks about the upcoming RDNA 3.5 GPU’s which are set to obliterate the 780m in performance.
Other considerations will be talked about such as accessories and battery life.
Enjoy!

Pointless video, you might as well wait until 2030 when we will finally get 4060 performance APUs...The new AMD Strix Point APU with rdna 3.5 are not as good as you think, they will be an improvement compared to Z1e but only at higher TDPs, that's why no one is using them, besides the Ally even the Zotac Zone was announced with Z1e, and that's coming in September, that means AMD doesn't have a good successor to the Z1e yet for that 10W to 25W TDP range. Maybe next year we will get something better, but as i said if we keep waiting the things coming next year we might wait forever at that point. To me 2x battery life, 24gb of faster ram, 2 type c ports and better controller and cooling system ara a worth upgrade coming from the OG Ally, and it will be a pretty great device until Ally 2 in summer/fall 2025 with hopefully some new meaningful AMD processor

I doubt they gonna use the actual 880 or 890m chip the reason why they modify 780m to Z1 is to reduce cost!!! If they don't modify it then prepare for $1000 Handheld together with those UNecessary features like OLED screen!!! I'm just gonna buy Gaming Loptop or Build a Gaming PC than a $1000 Handheld

I don't understand this logic. Tech bloggers were saying don't buy rtx 2080 wait for next generation and crypto mining thing happened and people like me ended up using rx 470 4gb for 3 more years. I say don't buy ally x if you already have Ally, do not need sd card and you ALWAYS play on your couch

I will be selling my Ally for an X. For me I always wanted more memory and a usb4 slot for my old 1080ti, so this will be a purchase for me.

If next gen is 40% upgrade, it would bring a massive improvement in fps. Going from 40 fps on low to say 55-60 will make a noticable difference. Also the jump from 6400-7500 ram to 8533 and capacity from 16 to 24 is a big deal.
I think a lot about this though because I don't play most new games so that might not be enough for 2x the price

The thing is there will always be something better on the horizon, that's the nature of technology. The Ally X should last a significantly long time and performs very well.

Ally x definitely not worth in imo im waiting for something amazing to come out before i get another handheld

start to notice the pc handheld scenes is slowly becoming like the smartphone scene. You hold off hoping for the next best thing only to buy it before ANOTHER next best thing is recently announced.

So far my research lead to ROG ally being the more bang for buck for what it offers but luckily Asus announces the Ally X, unless by December we have another pc handheld that's better than the Ally X in terms of RAM and Battery size, I am inclined with the Ally X

Basically this is like upgrading a 4070 ti super to a 4080 super not much of a huge upgrade. I baught a legion gon and I'm loving it the ally x was my other option but glad i got the go

A 30% improvement is not worthwhile and not next gen. It is quite obvious these handhelds will be upgraded in 2026

I think it's one for them things. People saying wait is kind of wrong. The Rog ally has been out for 12 months now got numerous updates fixing alot of bugs and making the experience more and more streamlined. The X is the calibration of everything they have improved on the ally but a hardware improvement on what everyone complained about and wanted. Upping the ram, bigger battery adding new power modes and improvements to the sticks ect. Yes there will be some new devices out but will they been as good as the X. Example look at the go and others that have come before it. For me I won't be upgrading my original ally for this but if someone was looking for a device to buy as they don't have one ide recommend it over others on the market and ones that are coming so far. That said great to have a choice though.

You missing the point 890M is not good enough, the 16CU variant need 45W minimum so can't be used in Handheld, the 12CU is slightly better, so AMD and others will skip over 9000 gen anyway, so you will be stuck with expensive Chinese brands only.

It's only Lunar lake that will get proper new gen performance which is coming to MSI Claw, Ally biggest weakness wasn't more performance but more battery and that's fixed.

So no if you want handheld go for Ally X or wait for new MSI Claw

The strix point is 90 a 110 watt Apu and the Ryzen 9 8945HS has A TDP of 45 W that is way to high for a handheld. we would go back to 50 mins run time.

I’m selling my ally for the x for me the extra ram and cooling seems to be built for this system my sd card hasn’t broke but I play on just performance mode because I’m scared to crank it up because it gets so hot. And I noticed that even though games run well on the og games that have presets like re2 and 3 tell you it’s based on the ram you have for graphics so I figured more ram and cooler system better performance at all preset more comfortably second the storage and the comfort of the design being able to customize your storage based on your needs is great. The grip and the triggers and buttons are just extra. The battery is a plus just to not have to plug if I don’t want too it cool to say I keep mine plug in but it would be nice to not every once and a while and last the black man it really makes the screen pop more and seem more uniformed looking at it already make mine look outdated. If this well the last one for a couple of years I rather just jump now

I have the Ally and I'm not upgrading to the X. Right now, I feel that there are too many compromises in the handheld market. The Ally is good, as is the Steam Deck and Legion Go, but you are giving up a lot for portability. For me, It's not worth it. And I say that as someone where cost isn't a factor. The overall performance, the amount of tweaking that has to be done is more than I want to be doing. So, for me, I'm likely to get a new laptop and sell the old Ally. I was hopeful that the XG gpus would come down in price, but now with ASUS seemingly moving away from that I don't see how I can get more out of my Ally without spending way too much for the XG. For the same $3K for the Ally, XG and accessories I can get a nice 4080 laptop which will cover my needs better.

it's so tempting for me - someone who has always felt that the meager 16gb was not enough, especially for games with mods. But I think I will wait for a later generation machine.

I sold my ROG ally to get the X, but im rethinking it right now, they didn't slap an oculink port. I'd be pretty much stuck waiting until Thunderbolt 5 rolls out, so i can strap a decent egpu.

I have the XG Mobile so the ROG ally x is useless to me not having the xg mobile port
