Shakespeare gets several of his Italy references wrong. Like many a great writer he borrowed from Holinshed, Ovid, Marlow and many others. Talent and industry really can produce incredible results as JS Bach famously said. Just enjoy what he left us, folks.

Measure for Measure is set in Vienna, a landlocked city in Austria. But the play constantly references a port! He was an expert in very little, just using exotic place names to make his plays more interesting. His work is riddled with this kind of thing.

We've been told for years that Sir Frances Bacon was Shakespear.

As far as not owning anything at the end of his life, can you imagine how you entrust something valuable to someone else to make sure that it lives on the beyond you?

If you spent your life writing your magnum opus every time you wrote some thing, you were definitely going to put it somewhere safe beyond your house.

Arthur C. Clarke never set foot outside of this planet.

I'm an Oxford award-winning scholar who has studied Shakespeare extensively! I would be happy to comment further on this subject hmu

Shakespeare wrote during the age of discovery. England was later than most countries. And the globe theatre was walking distance from some of the companies that had royal charters to trade with the rest of the world. E.g East India company.

Emilio Salgari, Italian most loved author of Sandokan’s adventures and many other beautiful books and stories from waaay distant lands, never set a foot outside Italy. Yet the description of places and cultures is so accurate!!! Genius is genius. Talent is talent.

Shakespeare was master of none of those things. His erudition has been greatly exaggerated by those who would then wish to claim he couldn't have possessed such erudition. The simple fact is that scholars have tracked down where he learned most of the things he put in his plays, both right and wrong. No surprise, it was mostly from commonly available books.

Sir Francis Bacon and a Shakespeare group of writers wrote his plays and was proof read by Francis Bacon

It’s actually been greatly debated if he’s the one who wrote the plays or just the face and name behind them. I forgot which royal but supposedly it was one of the royals who wrote the plays and had William Shakespeare take all the credit since royals were not allowed to do that. I’ve learned to just appreciate the work. Whoever the real author is, they’re definitely well educated, traveled, and highly talented. Bravo to the true author, whoever they may be ❤

I had the impression that there is an unaccounted period in Shakespeare's life, during which he could well have been to Europe. However I have never heard of him being attributed any of those skills claimed in this video, beyond being good with words. You CAN be talented and self-taught without extensive education or owning a library, especially if you have a photographic memory. It is also amazing how much knowledge a person can absorb from stories, news and gossip and better educated acquaintances. Especially an intelligent person with an excellent auditory and photographic memory.

Another possibility is that Shakespeare was friendly with aristocrats and merchants, perhaps earning money by inventing poems and love letters for them to woo a lady. It would give him the chance to hear stories, learn about various things and have discussions about forms of poetry etc.. In other words, he could have had help with the material and details from sailors, merchants and aristocrats, , enough to make his plays "authentic" but it was still him who wrote the plays and sonnets. It is amazing how much a person can learn and absorb without any formal teaching, including a few languages just hanging out with people that speak it: there are plenty of children who can speak 3 or more languages without any formal study.

That is fascinating...i always felt that he was a channel and now this is kind of validating that. I am still kicking myself for missing patrick Stewart playing Prospero in a Shakespeare in the park in NYC production of The Tempest...in 1993 lol
