How A Mix-Up Nearly Ended the World

Sometimes misunderstandings happen - and that's normal. But when those misunderstandings or mistakes happen on a global scale between leaders or warring nations, they're not so normal. There have been plenty of historical mix-ups that led to terrible things: death, destruction, and world war. Some crises were averted, others were not. These historical snafus have shaped the way our world works, and have some huge historical consequences.

To read about other historical mixups that narly got out of hand, go here:

When I was about 15 or 16, I had just crawled into bed when I heard the very loud blood curdling scream coming from my parent’s bathroom. Their bedroom was on the opposite side of the house and both my parent’s door and my door was closed. I jumped out of bed and ran down the hallway and into their bedroom (which was connected to the master bedroom suite). My mom was freaking out and holding her eye. I kept asking her what was wrong. She finally answered and said that she had her glasses off and had mixed up her eye drops and her bottle of styptic pencil (it’s a liquid that stops small bleeding injuries and hurts like hell). She had put a couple of drops of the styptic pencil in her eye and was in severe pain. I didn’t have my drivers license yet so I got her a cool wet washcloth and threw a jacket on (I was wearing pajamas on. I ran across the street and got the neighbor to come over and drive her to the hospital. She came back sometime in the early morning. I don’t know when because I was asleep, I just know she was home when I got up to go to school. Meanwhile, I had to call my dad (he was on a work trip) to see if he could come home early. Then later, I had to call my mom’s boss and explain the situation and why she wouldn’t be in for an unknown amount of time. Her boss was doubtful, but came over later that night and saw for herself. My mom had to wear a patch over her eye for about 3 weeks until everything healed up. My dad threw the styptic pencil away and forbid my mom from ever getting another one.

Franz Ferdinand was not the younger brother of the Emperor Franz Joseph. He was his nephew, the son of the Emperor's brother Karl Ludwig.

These events are tragic but the narrator made each funny to watch and listen to.

There was a battle in the Philippines where the Samurais went to war against Aztecs, you should make a video about that

Franz Ferdinand wasn't the brother, but rather the nephew. Don't mean to nit-pick bc I do love your vids 🤗

Could you please do a weird history on how samurai went number 2?
I’m watching Shogun at the moment and you never see anyone going number 2
So far you only see someone going number 1 on someone’s head.

King Henry II actually said "What miserable drones and traitors have I nourished and promoted in my household, who let their lord be treated with such shameful contempt by a low-born clerk!" though the meaning was the same in that he was frustrated with the Arch Bishop.

Well, as you ask for subjects for new videos, here goes one: the true history of how the idea for the Original Kung Fu TV series *was not* stolen from Bruce Lee. Yup, there were different degrees of racism involved in the events, but the chronology of how Spielman-Friedlander wrote the first script for a film feature and it ended up as a TV series starring David Carradine because he was a better actor for that role is well documented in Matthew Polly's "Bruce Lee: A Life, " and even in Wikipedia. It's a quite interesting story.

History is the story of events, with praise or blame. History is not the past but a map of the past, drawn from a particular point of view, to be useful to the modern traveller.

Contrary to popular belief, Princip was not eating a sandwich. Serbian Delis didn't even serve sandwiches at the time.
