Quick Test Johnson Viking II Ham Transmitter Modulation without keying up Tech Tip for your records

Many of these old rigs have seen the bench at D-Lab. I have always checked the audio path using this method (No key up). So, I thought it was time to share this info with you. The audio chain in the Viking transmitter is pretty straight forward, but many put themselves in harms way when testing this circuit. By the way, the sound check was performed after installation of the Hammond 124B interstage transformer and the new driver circuit, which consists of a 12AX7 preamp driving a 6C4 driver triode. This info is available on the AM window web page. I believe this is the best front end for your Johnson Viking II. Allows super performance from an unamplified D-104 mic. Hopefully this info is of value to you.

This is a great example of reading the schematic and understanding how things shake out in there. You've done people a huge favor with this.. not only for testing audio, but for safety.... removing the Rectifier tube does NOT alway mean the device is safe. GOOD STUFF
