People kept saying I reminded them of Glenn so I put the thumbnail up as kind of a joke.

Invaluable info brother. Like Marty Friedman says..”just play bullshit but play that bullshit with conviction!” Love it

I know this is an older video but this was super helpful! i've just learned the pentatonic scale in five positions and still had no idea how to make it sound anything like a solo--thanks for this awesome concept!

I wish we had youtube when I was young. It arrived just as I was reaching the age when learning becomes exponentially more difficult. Yougsters don't know how lucky they are to have all these resoueces.

Watching this in 2022 and duuudee, instant improvement on the spot! Been doing scales for years and already feeling bad because I thought maybe I just don't have that much music in me. This hack has blown me away! Thanks a bunch!

This is how I play the blues. I'm not a singer but can 'talk' common sings in my head while jamming with other musicians. I get lost in my own 'space' but can still still 'hear' and respond to their music. I can relax as 'I'm not obsessed with being creative with each bar of music.

Can't thank you enough for this lesson man! I always avoided lead guitar and especially improv solos/jamming (got decent at rhythm playing instead) seeing I really didn't know where to start with improv. This really helps make a solo sound good - I've started thinking of the lead lines like sentances with pauses, syllables etc now which has really helped my phrasing. Another thing that's helped is working out vocal melodies to songs by ear - so now when jamming i'll quicky work out a few notes the singers singing then use those notes while applying the method in this lesson. Great lesson - finally feel like I'd be able to confidently improvise in a jam session now.

Now here is where the fun starts Now pick up the guitar and play that Root Note Chord and start to hum that Root Note and then start to see what other notes you can hum or sing along with that Root Note you can make up a simple melody that you know but whatever melody you come up with try to get it back to that Root Note so your ear and mind can see and hear that relationship

What if i actually play jingle bells on a solo on stage will that help?

he left out a very important technique that made me go from just playing notes to soloing: picking hand technique. Rakes, muting, different pressure. The rake is how you make a note "scream". This is a cool idea but SRV sounded like he did because of his right hand attack. My 2 cents but when i learned to properly rake it took my playing from shit to mediocre lol. i have some old videos if you want proof
