COVID-19: How lethal has this pandemic been?

Sky News data reveals that mortality in England and Wales in 2020 deteriorated at the fastest annual rate since 1929.

And more people in terms of civilians died last year than in any year since 1918.

It makes me wonder how bad the toll would be if we didn't have lockdown and other safety precautions in place. That frustrates me when people complain that it's not bad enough to need these restrictions, because they have no idea how bad it would be without them.
