Parallel Latin and Greek? How helpful! Interesting to see the differences between scholarly aides today and 300 years ago.

The 300 year old book has survived so much, ir deserves respect and admiration. The fact that it was in both Latin and Greek is curious today but made total sense, Latin was the common language for government, church and universities, the Greek was the language they were learning for an academic, church snd government employment. The mind boggles today but totally understandable for the period, just glad both languages are fir enjoyment of some and only necessary for certain occupations like the medical profession. Thank you for posting this interesting book.

Both are great for their times. You lose something, you gain something else.

My God, however, old books were gorgeous!

The 300 year old edition of The Histories is beautiful, and the other version is the one I read 📚 It's excellent with ~250 pages of end notes, and if you read it I highly recommended this edition

It's a pity that few deluxe editions today have parallel translations, e.g. English|French or English|German.

Though I love and enjoy the 300 years old book، I am so grateful to all those people who improved printing industry for the cheaper version.

Bro - your love for books and the emotion you put into your posts is so gratifying for me. I feel the same about these old dusty tomes - so happy you do what you do. 😊

I love your explanation! The modern version is, thankfully, much more accessible to those on the go (professors and students) or those with limited space. I have a wonderful collection of shakespeares works in leather bound and gold leaf, but they do take up about 6x the space as their modern editions which makes it hard for me to have lots of books in my small place. They’re both wonderful, and I love seeing the appreciation for both!

I discovered Tom probably about a year ago when he had less than 13k followers and within a month he had garnered 30k. Now he has 174k, well done Tom!

Thank you for your enthusiasm. It reminded me of my past in Catechism, I recall we used to have old books over a hundred years old sometimes.
I recall too how we had older reference Britannicas too. The amount of details to our European past is there, sadly the new stuff is mostly garbage with insert blackwashing as well as dogging on the past.

The way you explain to the simple minds like I am is astonishing. It feels like an Asmr.

That was a beautiful book! While I'm thankful for modern translations, I would love to be able to go back and take a formal Latin class. Thank you for the video.
God be with you out there, everybody. ✝️ :)

I have a load of books. More - I recently found out - than my local public library if you discount their rubbish novels.
I have a lot of paperbacks myself - not juch choice when even 'hardbacks' are commonly glued bindings with cardboard covers.
So how nice it is to - even occasionally - come across a properly bound book these days.
I have a couple of properly bound - but tatty - old books on naval history. Recently decided I might just be able to afford to rebind them. To find the local rebinder I last used a decade ago has retired and moved away.
Some people just have no consideration...😊😊😊

Love old books. The smell of a library of old books is incredible. Well if you can be there without too many people!

I recently added to My collection (thanks to My friends) 1789 copy of Milton's "Paradise lost", i do have 1920s, 1970 and 2000s copy Im still impressed by binding, paper and lithography.
Its bound in sheep skin with gold elements.
Notably book has been given as gift to 3 people before Me as there are dedications (amazing history) I did ask My friends to use traditional ink pen to write dedication for Me, adding to its historical journey.
