I don't believe I had SIP open, but I changed out cable modems and I couldn't verify now. I am going to do a thorough review of my firewall. I am setting up pfSense and it will be my firewall shortly.

the ethernet network over cable is CSMA, two station cannot transmit to the same time, this is why QOS is important in ethernet network, your explication min 17 is wrong

So how do we protect our systems from SIP packet sniffers? Looking at my CDR reports I can tell that the server keeps getting hit. Since Google Voice is the backbone for the trunk, outbound, and inbound routes, we have to have certain ports open.

My thought was use OpenVPN on pfSense, but I worry that could cause a lot of issues in QoS of the SIP packets. Ultimately leading to dropped calls, robotic voices, and so on.

I do have a decent Cisco 3560 Catalyst PoE 24 to use, but with that I am very N00bish with configuring (Cisco gear has NEVER been intuitive even with the Network Assistant). I've already setting up a VLAN just for the SIP connections and had a heck of a time getting FreePBX to load in the browser, let alone it took forever to launch the distro. If the switch is factory defaulted, then it'll work.

The FreePBX sits in VirtualBox on top of Windws 7 at the moment, but that will be changed to physical hardware.

To be honest the web is full of misinformation and outdated information that no longer applies. A lot goes back to when I first started with Trixbox. The FreePBX community is pretty useless as there is this attitude of RTFM. So I came to an expert, and maybe you can shed some light.

I'm so stuck with a Cisco error. This is the error updating locale cisco ip phone so this is the status message on the phone just keeps registering and restarting even shorten the secret to nine characters. I want to scream 7941g/7961g.

Any help would be great.

Just wanted to let folks know.  I had security on my Raspbx but it seems I was hacked.  I haven't had time to fully investigate, but the log file was showing where folks were getting in and attempting to use my service to call long distance.  I called several of the numbers and found a very foreign sounding fellow using a number in my area code.  He didn't want to answer my questions and hung up.  Each other instance involved a recording that referenced an "opt-out" without mentioning what you're opting out (Shady).  Since I didn't have any money on Google Voice,  they didn't get far.  Just wanted to caution folks.  I am going to totally redo my setup since I don't know exactly what was planted while they were in.  Check your log files more than me, like weekly.  Chris, have you had any issues with this?  I did download Lenny files so I am not sure if this may have given access.
