To me, the most impressive is the range up to lets say 60 or 70 on open road. The lack of drama on a Vmax to get insane acceleration without downshifting, without screaming engine, just pull the throttle and off it goes. While sitting upright totally relaxed on a sofa. That is definition of cool.

I launched a V-MAX and now my damn arms are 6 inches longer than they were.

Exactly why I own my VMAX! Respect demanded. A true legend in the bike world

That guy knows just how to launch his max.

The VMAX dethroned the Honda V65 Magna. The V65 was a brutal sleeper, an absolute wolf in sheep's clothing. The VMAX looked more serious. It looked like it meant business and it positively did. I really loved that era of motorcycles.

Oh yes I own both bikes, I can tell you, at least for stock versus stock, the 14R pulls harder, and if you watch, that ninja was making up distance pretty quick. this is a case where one Rider knew how to get out of the hole and the other one wasn't as quick. Taking nothing from the VMAX, the thing is a monster and if you let it squirt out ahead you're going to have a hell of a time catching it.start adding modifications to either bike then perhaps it's anybody's game at that point. Both of them are amazing machines.

That was one serious launch. That 60 feet time must have been killer.

I had one. Most awesome bike ever. Never was beat. If they knew what it was they didnt even attempt it.
This was the old school Max 145hp...the new Max is around 215hp.

Pause at 0:09 - flat slide carbs, chain drive, full headers, extended swingarm, probably a PCW 1540 cc engine - sounds like it has a Pingel air shifter, too. Stock in 1985 (145 hP) with Jay Gleason was 10.29.

I have a 2009 vmax. Haven't ridden it a while. I just turned 70. The acceleration with vboost is awesome. This thing is a beast. I have cars trying to keep up following too close. I just give it some throttle and I pull away. The cars slow down and don't follow close anymore. Don't mess with the vboost or any motorcycle.

I like how the max keeps its own very staunch look and doesn't doesn't follow the low down crouch geometry of other big brand superbikes.

Good to see a chain driven Vmax, that’s how they should’ve come from the factory

It all comes down to the rider. Good job!

V-Max. One of the fastest motorcycles on the planet.I always wanted one but never had the chance. I wish Yamaha would still produce them.

Just like I've seen posted, I too own a Gen I Vmax and an '08 ZX-14, both of which have stock motors. I love the Vmax but yeah, there's no way in hell in stock form it's going to get away from the ZX-14. The modified Vmax in this video is hauling serious ass.

So hooded sweatshirts pass as protective racing gear?

First of all I'm pretty sure zx14 tuned also. Guys what you talking about. VMAX is legendary amazing machine. Doesn't matter tune or not it was doing the same things in 1985. 20 years difference between this bikes. But vmax is the beast. It's like a wild horse. Ready to make a jump from any gear. I LOVE MY 1989 VMAX.
