The World’s First ELECTRIC Snow Bike!

The ECR crew took 3 MoonBikes, the World's First Electric Snow Bike, on an overnight backcountry winter adventure in the high alpine Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

What is a MoonBike? You may ask. It's an electric snow bike that has a mono ski up front, bolted to a mountain bike style fork, and in the back it’s got a 10” wide track. The track is powered by a hub drive motor that puts out 6kW of peak power. To energize the hub motor, the Moon Bike utilizes a single 72 volt battery, which we have 2 of, both of which are secured inside an electrically warmed battery compartment. When running both batteries, the MoonBike weighs roughly 221 pounds.

Well, it’s about time someone “ran” with an electric version of Chrysler’s classic Snowrunner. Looks like an avalanche of fun!

I have seen someone zipping down a trail near my house on a surron with a snow bike kit, Seemed like he was moving well.

Electric powertrains make for some magical vehicles.

Looks fun, I need something to do next winter. I just got my Talaria Sting this week!! I appreciate all of your tests and reviews- you were a big influence in my purchase over the Surron LBX, I mainly want to ride trails 👍👍 I would definitely be interested to learn more about winter gear for noobs.

Pretty cool. Definitely looks like the front ski is made for hardpack, you would need the larger ski from a dirt snowbike to stay on top of that fluff snow !

That cabin door reminds me of the door I built for my friend’s cabin outside of Fairbanks, Ak. Lots of insulation is good!
Motorcycles are safer than 4-wheelers and I’d say these are safer than snowmobiles. Too bad Ken Block wasn’t riding one of these :^(

Seems like they need a slightly bigger front ski, and some sort of plow on the front fork to move powder out of the way…

Really looks like they would really benefit from a ski with a keel

We should stop thinking of making noise as fun, because all this noise is very bad for all the wildlife and it's a nuisance that can impact their population a lot, so i am glad these electric snow bike can be fun and at the same time preserve these places from loud 2 stroke motor sound.

Great channel and content, keep it up. Ruffian Send -E next maybe? You mentioned 2 hrs on one battery, did you mean range on both batteries (one charge)?

I'm a little concerned that we didn't hear what they sound like

About $10K of fun. If I were a winter enthusiast (I hate cold and winter here in WI) I would get one of these for sure. Instead, I'll enjoy winter in my warm house wearing my heated vest, dreaming of the Carribean.

Moonbikes are only good in flats with 5" to 10" of powder; they are not good in the mountains. This is a far cry from a snowmobile.
Horrible on hard-pack or ice; actually dangerous. They get stuck in over 10" of powder. This is just a cheap electric mountain bike with a ski. If you want a real snowmobile bike, then get a Talaria Sting MX4 ($4k) with a TrackNGo ($3k), 100% better. My kids, wife, and I tried both and ended up ditching the Moonbike and waiting to take turns on the Talaria MX4 with TrackNGo. Night and Day difference.
Moonbike staff lied to me and said it would make it to my cabin. Nope! Ran out of juice and it wouldn't make it up hills. They said they would allow me to return it if it didn't. Nope! they lied. Really bad company and really bad product = perfect recipe for bankruptcy.

This is a joke of a product unless you are on the flats with perfect 5" to 10" untracked powder.

Having issues getting mine registered in California. Additionally, no insurance companies will provide coverage. Too bad.
