Understanding God's Mercy

The Bible tells us that God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. It also tells us God is rich in mercy. What does it mean when we say that "God is merciful"? God is so merciful; the day before my school marathon i broke my promise towards God so i asked for his forgiveness and mercy and to make me new and clean. The next day i still performed very well and came 5th place in my age grp.God heared my prayer still when i prayed for help to run the race.
