I predict that the plot to a future Elder Scrolls game will be about the Dwemer returning from wherever they went and trying to reclaim what was once theirs... and not necessarily through peaceful means.

Idk about non-confrontational because they fought a LOT.. They went to war with the dunmer (Aetherium Wars, War of the First Council which lead to Battle of the Red Mountain), Atmorans (War of the Crag, and War of Succession), and chimer who would become enslaved by the dwemer as during the War of the Crag, then there was the Battle of Rourken-Shalidor. Not sure if I forgot anything but they basically fought with everyone in the same region of Tamriel.

I believe the main theory for them vanishing is that Tamriel is really the dream of the Godhead. The Dwemer became aware of this and used their technologies to wake up from his dream. Therefore vanishing from what everyone else perceives as existence.

Dwemer city ruins don't look like cities...just hallways kinda disappointing

It's one of my favorite topics especially in Morrowind. You actually get to meet the one and only surviving dwemmer with robotic spider legs. Also you can see there dust piles that you can search through. There's even a lesbian reference with them diapering.

The Dwemer are creepy and modern. I avoid anything related to that storyline. It doesn’t fit in with the rest of Tamriel.
