Super interesting project and I like your nerdy approach!

Glad you were able to connect with Kelly about this. I like the idea of getting an understanding of why the books were important in the time they one by reading them in order. Embrace the inner nerd.

Excellent project! I've read 23 Pulitzer novels, so far. I should add some more especially those from the 1930s and 70s, haven't read any from these decades.

I've read only 25 Pulitzer prize winners and most are very recent ones. "Lonesome Dove" is one of my most favorite books. "The Overstory" also high on my list. Also loved "All the Light We Cannot See"...I have always wanted to read "The Good Earth" as well..."American Pastoral has been on my TBR list for many years...must get to that one. Loved "North Woods" and hoping it wins in May 2024!

So cool! I’m presently working on this same challenge. I’ve been at it for about five years. While I’m not a particularly slow reader, I’ve taken a few detours. I returned to it in October and have been at it in full force. One of my most favorites so far is The Confessions of Nat Turner. It’s remarkable. I just finished Foreign Affairs tonight and am now reading A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain. Looking forward to the 2020 announcement!

I wondered if you had talked to Kelly about her adventure. I did something similar with the Booker Prize quite a few years ago. I will look forward to hearing your responses as you go.

Yes! I'm looking forward to what you can glean about industrialization, workers, etc. from those two novels.

Hey was that an Airedale??!! I'm completely distracted. Have a 14-year-old Airedale here.

Cultural significance is a great way to examine the Pulitzer Prize. I had trouble with _Less_ when I first read it, but the more I think and read others talk about it the more it seems to be about certain stories being privileged due to the big cultural concerns of our time (a simplification of a beautiful sad, funny book). Looking forward to seeing your project play out.

(Now back to Kelly's response video which is how I ended up here!)

I can’t wait to hear about all these books in the coming months! I am about to start my own reading project starting July—the King Arthur Project. I’m going to read many King Arthur books and Arthurian literature from Medieval to modern, fiction and non-fiction, one or two titles per month. This will take some time to complete but I’m excited. Good luck with your Pulitzer Project!

Greg! I made a video in response to this one. The nerd in me was trying to help out the nerd in you! It's almost entirely in jest and I do truly wish you all the best with your Pulitzer Project. I hope you know that. Once you finish this project, I'll have to re-do the Booktube Newbie tag to talk about what is fun and unique that I bring to Booktube! LOL!

A really interesting project! I’m trying to read all the Booker Prize winners (easier in that the prize only started in 1969). I’m also trying to read at least one book published in each calendar year going back as far as I can (almost finished the 20th century now), and every year looking back and reading books with significant anniversaries. Looking forward to 2020, it’s the 100th anniversary of Sinclair Lewis’s ‘Main Street’. Looking at its Wiki page, it apparently was the book which the Pulitzer jury selected for the 1921 prize, but the board rejected it and awarded the prize to ‘The Age of Innocence’ instead. I’m definitely reading ‘Main Street’ next year (it will be my first Sinclair Lewis). I loved Age of Innocence so will be interesting to compare the two.

William Faulkner won later in his career for a lesser known book as well and I wondered if he was being rewarded for his body of work instead of that specific book. I am also making my way through the Pulitzer winners, I’m currently reading March by Geraldine Brooks. I look forward to your updates!

I’ve also had the feeling I’d like The Good Earth for years so I’m looking forward to your reaction to it once you’ve read it.

I think this is a great project!! I've also been thinking about doing this along with my read the world challenge. Since I'm also focusing on the US and states individually, I can probably tie in some of these into that challenge! Good luck and hope you find some new favorites.

If you don't really like a book, will you bail as you usually do or will you force yourself through because of this project? I really like projects like this, but I could never read a book I don't like just for the sake of it.

The Keepers of the House sounds really good. Can’t believe I haven’t read The Good Earth yet. Why were those books you mentioned chosen, but not awarded?

Your stache humor is funny. We’re probably just jealous because we can’t grow them. Do you do no shave November, too? 😂

In order would be cool if you can manage it. Prize lists tend to follow societal issues, so it’s interesting to see how societal concerns evolve over time.

Wait ... did I just read in the comments section that you will bail on a Pulitzer you don't like?!?!
