DON'T BUY HUAWEI My Problem With Them And The P10 Lite

When I buy something I expect it to work as expected! Not too much to ask?

The Huawei P10 Lite is a great phone and is a good example of Huawei's brand in general. Good phones at good prices.

But that is where the good stuff ends. Where are the updates? My P10 Lite is still rocking Android 7.0 Nougat, with no update in sight, at least an official OTA update.

Maybe use a custom ROM, but the bootloader is locked so you need some expertise to do this. Not something a general user is likely to do or should need to!

Anyway, let me know what your experiences are and if I am totally wrong? I would love to know what other users around the World are getting on their Huawei devices.

My P10 lite got the oreo/emui 8.0 update in July, it's much better than nougat for me, I think you can force update using the PC software

Have you looked into custom roms as a way around all of the manufacturer / carrier crap?

It was something I did a lot back in the day and I last did it to my HTC 10 which did not work as expected sadly, and the issues were ... sort of fixed but never totally resolved.

I've looked at doing the same with my s9 plus, but unsure if I will.

Its awkward and time consuming but its a good way to get the latest and greatest, often with better performance and tweaks than from the manufacturer. My only gripe is that many many roms insist on rooting. Some don't. I never bother with it because it interferes with banking apps and other stuff.

The HTC 10 also allowed for the carrier stuff to be circumvented (albeit requires more complicated stuff like S-OFF which is specific to HTC and not something you want to get into at the moment). For example, it has a code that ties it to a certain locale, or carrier, called a CID. For Three, who are my provider, their CID is H3G__001. Thus your updates would come after Three do their tinkering to it. For international unlocked, its was HTC__001 so you would get the unlocked stock HTC update.

Dont know anything about Huawei, so it could be easy, could be tricky, but it might be something worth looking into. Goes without saying though, your warranty goes bye bye.

Great video. The lite devices have never been the quickest/ are the last to get the updates. My honor 9 got the update half a year ago. Other places in europe have the update so i dont know why you dont. You can use the app on play store to get the official updates though and you dont need to unlock the bootloader.

I bought a P10 and went through the whole process of setting it up, very excited, until I discovered that my Banking App wouldn't open, well known High St Bank etc.
I phoned them and they said that it was a problem they were "looking into." But that they had this issue with a number of Chinese phones.
Having been tempted to buy an Honor phone recently, I Googled the situation re the Bank and Huawei and, apparently it's *still* ongoing.

That, coupled with the fact that USB C wouldn't sync with my Car Stereo (Micro USB *does!*)..forced me to return it to The Carphone Warehouse, whereupon I came into contact with their no refund "returns policy!"...that is, I had to exchange it for a phone of equal, or superior quality, which is why I'll be buying from Amazon in the future! ;O)

Huawei P10 I own, Its not just you mate as I am not getting any updates as well even that I contacted Huawei few times asking for it. My friend living in Bulgaria has P10 Lite and he has received the oreo two months ago I this doesnt make any sence. I used to love Huawei but from now on I may change the brand ! Also my bank card is on that phone and the security patch is out of date as its since july 2017. Shame ! I have the same Fitbit Surge but it works well with P10, i forgot to mention that my friend with P10 Lite has issues with the Oreo update and even after reset the system is acting weird so even if you received the update soon its very likely to get even more dissapointed unfortunately

At least you got a couple of updates. The phone I got with my provider was a ZTE Zmax Pro, and it's still on Android 6. :BOO: ;) I always seem to pick the ones that never upgrade. {Sigh}

I also can't find any updates for P10Lite but then I figure it out u can actually download the update via your computer using HiSuite. You can download HiSuite by connect your Phone to PC via USB cable and search the drive named CD DRIVE (E:) HiSuite > HiSuiteDownLoader and make sure using the latest version of HiSuite, if not you might not able to find the phone updates so just update HiSuite to the latest version. It works for me in Malaysia but not sure for other region. My P10Lite now updated from EMUI 5.1.1 to EMUI 8.0.0. I figure it out this method when i was going to backup my files to my PC using HiSuite and then the HiSuite automatically check the updates and somehow triggers the updates for my phone. In conclusion, you need to update manually for those didn't receive any updates automatically. Hope this helps =)
