I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I make easy and practical cantonese learning videos for complete beginners to intermediate level.
My full time job is a flight attendant. I enjoy studying foreign languages. My job allows me to visit many places and meet many people. So that I have more chances to practice what I have learned.

Due to the covid, I haven't fly regularly for over a year. I find Youtube is extremely helpful for maintaining my language proficiency. One day, out of curiosity, I looked for cantonese learning channels. I was so surprised that there are so little and most of the good one are even from overseas. That's why I started "5 minute cantonese" on 2020.Hi Cantonese learners,

Hi Amanda, I get confused by this initial because I often hear it sound differently depending on the word, in one of these two ways:
1) "dz" (e.g., godzilla, with tongue closer to teeth), like when you say "zaa1" in the video
2) "j" (e.g., juice, with the tongue further back), like when you say "zyu1" in the video
would you say that it sounds like like "dz" or "j" depending on the word?
p.s. Thank you for all your wonderful videos! you've helped me on reconnect with my mom's cantonese culture so much~

Good morning, Amanda! Finally, You ve reached the "z" letter, therefore I want to ask you why do you pronounce it literally alike mandarin's "z" in zaa1 ce1/zam1, but like mandarin's "zh" in zou2 in ziu1 zou2(morning) and in zyu1 (pig)? Is it a sort of HK feature or anything else? Thank you.
