Tied with Magnus on the first place, playing excellent chess in the last few days, I think this was really a bold move to go all out against Magnus with the black pieces. He could have played a safe line and maybe played for a draw and then could have tried to beat others while tied with Magnus for the top spot. But this is what makes him diffrent. Amazing play as always by Magnus but kudos to Mamedyarov for not settling and playing safe.

That was crazy. If I were playing through that game, I would have no idea what was happening. Actually, I think I still don't.

Many of mameds moves were not the absolute best, but required the absolute best counterplay (only one winning move each time, for like 5 moves in a row) from magnus to keep his winning chances. I think vs any other player, mamed would have easily drawn the game, which makes this even more impressive.

All respect to Shak for playing fighting Chess. He is co-leading the tournament, almost everyone else just opts for a draw against the world #1 in that spot but not him. Amazing.

To play 8 consecutive moves in a complicated middle game that move for move match what a supercomputer says is best is quite something…Magnus means all business chasing this 2900 goal

Props to Shakh for trying to play for the win against Magnus— not many have the guts to do that.

Magnus prepares as though he has absolute certainty of what his opponents will play. It’s clear that he’s using time travel for an unfair advantage.

Magnus played insanely well this game, like after Mamedyarov made the mistake 19…Be6, Magnus mercilessly punished him by playing ALL top moves recommended by Sesse at high depth, it’s crazy.

Even the super gms are not quite sure on how this is winning, so I will give you a couple of seconds to figure out the continuation… I got this

It's not even getting a pawn up endgame and slowly grinding. It's obliterating your opponent in 27 moves. Incredible

Effortlessly and smoothly winning as a prime Karpov in late 70s - early 80s.The opponent could not figure out when he lost. At least, now they have engines to explain when Magnus won :)

I've never been a fan of Carlsen at all, but once you saw these kind of matches, what can you say? That's the beauty of chess as well: no luck is allowed, he's just the best of our era.

This is incredible chess. I feels so blessed to live in the same time as Magnus is delivering theese masterpieces AND in the classical time format, even more impressive. All hail the king

Mamedyarov played very well. It's just unfortunate he played against a supercomputer.

Magnus makes taking down a former top 3 player in the world seem effortless, he's the goat

"Where did Mahmedyarov go wrong? It's hard to say." Crazy how he made no mistakes but just got 'tied up'. That's just amazing by Magnus. What a game. What a player.

Absolutely brilliant game by Magnus, kudos to Mamedyarov for taking that brave opportunity for a face off that ended in such a spectacular game
