I got the smaller one, and yes the scales can be removed with a Allen wrench, not sure the size though. As for "Danish" oil. Its just boiled linseed oil Not a "Kit" knife, but needs a bit of work. Which didn't bother me at all. I'm not the kind of person who expects it to be perfect out of the box. Any ways, yes, they are great knives for the money. The BS1FTS, good little knife.
