Several SAPS's tactical unit and special task force members leave the force

Security experts and the police union have warned that the mass exodus of police officers, mainly from the country's most elite units, is leaving communities even more vulnerable.
The South African Police Union has revealed that over 70 % of SAPS's tactical unit and the special task force members in KwaZulu-Natal have left the force within a short space of time.
SAPU says police management and the government should be concerned.

Private security is in competition and more accepted by business than SAPS, due to the fact that corruption in government is so rife.

2008 was when everything went into freefall. Bring back the old skool SAPD: Anti-Corruption Unit, Child Protection Unit, SANAB, Stock Theft Unit...and recruit hard-core crime-fighters who are fit and fierce. Someone who can run 100 Meters in 13 seconds or less. Someone who takes it personally.

I hope these guys all go into private security...I trust my local security company way more than the SAPS.Sometimes the police don't even show up

I remember growing up in the hood there was a team called the flying squad unit that primarily went after car jackers. There was no crime in our area, we didn't even have a gate at home. A bunch of guys tried stealing copper taps and they were bliksemed so hard by my friends' dad and his colleagues, who were in the flying squad, that we never saw them again. This was between 1998 and 2003.

"Unfair promotion" = cadre deployment, and is not limited to SAPS, but is rife in all government departments. It's the case in government hospitals, SOEs etc

Private security needs power to arrest and defend. Gov must outsource all law enforcement, keeping the contractors responsible and accountable. SA will become a reformed country.
