Sims 1 vs Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 - Groceries

The Sims
In The Sims 1, there isn't technically an option to buy groceries, because when you go to the fridge to cook something you'll be automatically charged depending on the meal. however, with The Sims: Unleashed, The pantry was introduced. It allows Sims to store food and prepare meals without being charged. With Sims: Unleashed, gardening was also added. Now there are markets where you can buy or sell vegetables. You can buy green beans, tomatoes, carrots and lettuce. After you buy them, the vegetables will be added in your inventory. When you bring them home you can just stock the pantry and cook.

The Sims 2
In The Sims 2, you must buy groceries to fill up the fridge. There are two options available for buying groceries. One of them is visiting a Grocery Store. After you fill up the cart, the groceries will be automatically put in a shopping basket. The cashier will type the sum needed and the cash register will open and your sim will pay. You can also order groceries to be delivered to your home. The amount of food you want to buy is determined the same way. The delivery guy will come driving a truck. He take the groceries out of the back of the truck.

The Sims 3
If an ingredient that's needed to cook a meal is missing from both the refrigerator and the Sim's inventory, your Sim will be automatically charged at a higher cost and of lower quality than if they purchased it from the grocery store. the ingredients from the grocery are of nice quality, except for the fish that has normal quality.
Unlike the Sims 2, the Grocery is a rabbit hole in The Sims 3. There is a list of grocery items you can buy.

The Sims 4
In The Sims 4, Sims are charged whenever they cook a new meal. If you have the necessary ingredients for cooking a certain meal, you won't be charged, or you may be charged depending on what ingredient is available.
In the Sims 4, there are several options for buying groceries. With Cottage Living, you can now buy groceries directly from a grocery stand. There is also Crumplebottom's Garden Shop where you can buy many things including ingredients. With Cottage Living ordering groceries was also introduced. You can order directly from the fridge or from your phone. A delivery person will come on foot carrying your groceries in a bag. They will come in and place the groceries on a surface.

I like all the small details in Sims 2 (the store, foggy glass, delivery truck) but practically I do like how the Sims 4 shows how many of each item you already have when shopping.

I like how in Sims 2 your sims take the shopping basket home with them and just shoves it into the fridge instead of unpacking the groceries to put away.

Just remake the sims 2 with sims 4 graphics and call it a day honestly.

This just makes me miss and appreciate Sims 2. The team on that project really did care about the quality of the product.

Man, it's so nostalgic watching and listening to Sims 1 footage again. It feels so warm and comfortable, like the culture of the 90s and a cozier time was imitated and imbued right into the game.

I absolutely love sims 3, but sims 2 will always be close to my heart you just can’t beat the details that game offers! Thank you so much for this video.

The Sims 2 was always my favorite. I wish they'd re-release it with updated graphics.

I liked the Sims 2 the best. But the Sims 1 had its charms too. I loved the pantry mechanic.

i never knew that the pantry in the first sims game needed to be stocked! its lack of functionality always confused me as a kid lol

I never realized that grocery shopping in TS3 was that detailed. I always had my sims grow their own food or forage in the park. I would have them join strangers' picnics whenever I could as well lol.

ts2 wins, but there was a special charm in seeing your character actually drive up to a corner store then manually pick what they buy in ts3

When the Sims 1 has better (and more whimsical) public transit to get to the fresh market than my real life... What a delightful little life my Sims lived.

The winner for Groceries goes to: The Sims 2! 🏆🎉

I will say this, I do like the features from the pantry in the Sims 1. As for the Sims 4, I like the having the ability to choose the specific items I want/need for my Sims. Nevertheless, The Sims 2 came in top in my opinion due to the smallest things, such as having a basket while grocery shopping, the car/driving animations, the foggy window animation from the cooler, and the entire animation from the grocery delivery service 🚚

I'm REALLY hoping EA will look back on their creation from The Sims 2 when they created the Sims 5

ive never played sims 2, only 3 and 4, but i think that 3 will always be my favorite even if i play the other two. sims 3 was special to me, and the open world was the absolute best thing to happen. i wish they’d re-release it with updates to the optimization. i don’t even need updated graphics, i don’t want updated graphics. something about the sims 3 is just so charming and yet liminal.

Wow! Notice in the Sims 1 that the trader she buys the honey from actually puts the money she hands him into a box, rather than it disappearing. That's an incredibly nice detail.
