Perhaps Ganesha is where we get the word Gnosis from. Like the snake in many creation myths, Ganesha's head to trunk reflects quite clearly what a "cycle" looks like. A civilizational cycle starts with a matriarchal beginning (head) and a patriarchal end (tail). As above so below, Ganesha symbolically points to the matriarchal head of his elephant society.
