You're doing cinematic black bars WRONG

Today I'll explain why creating a letterbox effect (black bars) and placing it on top of your footage is not the best option and I'll talk about how you can get an ACTUAL cinematic aspect ratio for your videos (with the letterbox effect).

I generally like letter boxing better, I like the look of viewing in a smaller frame, and it also gives the benefit of sending messages to the audience.

There’s movies that use the black bars, take them out and even change them in the middle of the film purposely to communicate messages to the audience.

For example: someone could be shooting a 2.20:1 aspect ratio on a 4:3 Video, to give a claustrophobic, feel to the audience, but if it’s resized to an actual 2.20:1 aspect ratio it wouldn’t look as intended.

Lots of people are on their phones when they watch videos, but since there’s notches and spots for the camera it interrupts the view of the video and also won’t look as cinematic as intended, it will only fill the screen.
