This talk will explore how nurses can positively impact the parent experience in the NICU.

Stephanie Treherne works as a bedside nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.

She completed her Master of Science in Nursing at McGill University in 2016. Her research project focused on parent closeness and separation from their infant in the NICU and was published in 2017.

This experience allowed her to learn a lot about the NICU environment and discover her love for the NICU and the patients they care for. It also gave her insight into the parent experience and the impact nurses have on it.

She believes her project helped her to place more value on small interventions she can do to help parents feel more at ease and comfortable in the NICU.

Specifically, she likes to make crafts for the NICU families to acknowledge holidays, celebrate milestones, and provide encouragement to them.
