I don't know about auto and cab driver but me and my friends we did case study of roadside vendors like panipuri wala, chinese food stalls, chole bhature etc..and we found out that they actually earn alot then avenger salaried employees and its not we just assumed the numbers we reach out to them asked them questions tried to get as much data as we can also calculated their expenses we have completely documented everything and then i am saying this..

After 10years if the auto driver is smart he can buy 50 autos and run them around city, the profit will be Simlar to engineer's salary after 10yrs!

The very basic things we forget is that revenue is not final income. We also have to account for expenses. Doing so yields us the actual income or profits.
Then there is sales limitations like how much service or product you can sell in a day. Which means that the pay is variable.
Ultimately it is up to the individuals to do their own research. As the most precious resource that everyone has is their time.
Trading your time for money is unwise

idk about auto drivers but people in non-engineering fields like food, even like a pani puri stall, agriculture etc make TONS of money... an insane amount.
