I was so impressed by this interview I've listened to it three times!!!! I came across this obituary today and it made me think about high road leadership. "Vaughn (Sam) Humphrey was born in Iowa County, Iowa on March 18, 1921 to Clarence and Alba (Popham) Humphrey. He died on Monday, August 12, 2024, in Orange Park, Florida at the age of 103 years.

Sam grew up on the family farms at Hinkeltown and Green Valley, Iowa. He attended and graduated from high school at North English, IA, riding his horse 13 miles each way.

In November of 1942 he joined the Army with the 41st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 11th Armored Division, and drove a jeep for Lt. Col. Herbert M. Foy Jr. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and his division liberated two concentration camps. He received the Bronze Star and is believed to have been the oldest living American survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.

Following the war, Sam returned to Iowa and spent the majority of his career working at Collins Radio Company in Cedar Rapids, IA. He married Burnadean Humphrey and they made their home in Cedar Rapids, IA and later North English, IA. After his retirement, Sam and Burnadean moved to Bonita Springs, FL. There Sam enjoyed fishing, playing cards, providing treats to the neighborhood dogs on his walks, working in his yard, and helping at the First United Methodist Church in Bonita Springs.

After Burnadean’s passing in 2010, Sam continued to live independently, taking care of his house and yard and eating many meals at Mel’s Diner. Although his 100th birthday hit during COVID, he still managed to celebrate with his church family serenading him from across the street, having a small get together of a few friends and family at Mel’s Diner, and enjoying a parade of police cars and fire trucks in his honor.

When Hurricane Ian hit in 2022, Sam was confidant his home could withstand the storm and chose to shelter in place. However, flooding necessitated his being carried through the water to safety. With his home damaged, Sam relocated to a retirement center in Jacksonville, FL to be near his brother David.

In December of 2023, shortly before his 103rd birthday, Sam was honored at the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday Night Football Game as their Veteran of the Game. Using only a cane, he walked onto the field to a standing ovation from 65, 000 people." I hope sharing this is an inspiration to others.

Follow Ed & love this message!
We are blessed to have John Maxwell shares his wisdom at our church Christ Fellowship . He may not remember yet in 2011 he brought my then 15 year old son to Christ after a service. We, as a family, share and exercise his practices, light & love.

Great episode from two legends! One thing I do not understand is why there are so many ads. I couldn’t imagine a pastor giving a great sermon but taking a commercial break 5 times throughout it.

Ed is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and he says his greatest purpose in life is serving people with his knowledge, so why are there so many interruptions? For a few bucks every thousand views which interrupts the message?

If I could pay 50$ and never hear another Ed ad I would, and I’m sure he’d donate that money or spend it on increasingly better content. Again, LOVE Ed and the show.

I'm flabbergasted at how some people end up in leadership positions—not even taking into account global leadership, but especially down to the everyday leaders (bosses of jobs, etc.) Some people are truly horrendous and seem to do it primarily for the power trip, not out of care of being a role model. John Maxwell is an OG in the leadership space and it's admirable to see him still at it.

I used to think I just didn't understand a few things in life and thought I was just not smart enough but recently a few things are now more clear. It's amazing that we understand things only when the timing in your life is right.

Ed! You & John discussed extremely important aspects of our life - especially how life is right now at the onset of the podcast. I would really enjoy conversations like this in depth. Topics discussed were really fabulous. Such gentlemanly-ship together. So grateful to be able to listen in on an exceptional, kind, & true set of qualities in leaders & leadership. Hoping to hone these skills and more. Would welcome being a visionary & future leader. At 67 and John at 77 ... I set myself up to envision the next ten years. :)))) Prayers to you and your families, Ed & John. This brought tears 2x. Mint. xo
