If Neeko is looking for something that people almost never face, I have a few suggestions:
- Polish/Sokolsky Opening (1. b4), but looking for an early b5 rather than defending at b4 (Suppress the b8 knight.)
- Grob's Attack (1.g4), but looking for an early/immediate g5 rather than defending at g4 (Suppress the g8 knight.)
- English Opening (1. c4), but looking for an early b4 to gain space on the Queenside (Get a dragon bishop on B2.)
- Blackmar-Deimer Gambit (1. d4 d5, 2. e4 dxe), but going 3. c4(?) instead of of 3. f3 (Get N-c3 behind your c-pawn.)
...
I've played all of these for many years now (...been playing chess for 36 years now...); they are by far my favorite way to play with the White pieces. Engines aren't crazy about all of these lines, but I've played them all against various chess engines (on the highest difficulty available to me) and gotten wins anyway. The best moves for Black are not human looking, and the correct moves for these lines are not known by most players so you can get good positions that you know and opponents are clueless how to play. The lines here from the English and Polish Openings can easily transpose; in fact I started playing this line of the Polish while trying to change up my move order and sneak in b5 early.
...
I'll also say that almost regardless of what opening she plays, planning h4 into h5 and trying to trade a knight for Black's c8 bishop is a winning strategy in nearly every opening where White can castle queenside. It's very hard for Black to defend their king after kingside castling once both of those transpire, and h5 by Black to prevent White's h5 doesn't ever save the day. When Black does manage to defend, they are often left with a lot of their strongest pieces left in a passive position. It's just a good overall strategy to learn since you can play lots of openings and still go for it.

Conclusion: don't play the birds as a beginner.

I have watch so many chess pros. I never see they touch their king side bishop pawn. It just open so much vulnerability.

I bet 100 $, that none of the late 800s even know the name of this opening :D

At this point neeko should just play the bongcloud opening.

i think the english would be an idea for neeko, its far more safe but its also a very solid opening which isnt played a lot ( at 1100 im almost the only one playing it)

11:30 - I'm also between 700 and 800 and preserving bishops and knights is my thing lately, but I didn't think about active and passive pieces, good to know

I would say the Bird Stonewall version could be a solid beginner system to learn. Simple plan could be put a Knight on e5, try to support with the other knight on f3, Qe1 to bring it to the king side. The only problem would be for a begginer to learn what to do in 1.f4-e5.

I usually go b3 as white. It's probably not the best but I like having Bishop eyeing the center early on.

I have NEVER heard anyone describe the Bird's as 'safer'.

Dumb question from a Chess-noob rated below 400 ... This seems kind of a "Sicilian Defense" from he white side, does it not? ;)
