Is there a way to merge columns only for multiple rows?
I want to merge colums A through H for 30 rows. if i select all 30 rows, it metges all rows and columns into one large cell.

Quick tip... when you have a sheet or workbook with a lot of data, avoiding merging too much. This somehow causes you to corrupt your data and your formula(s) wouldn't work. You'll have to start from scratch over again.
