California wildfires: Thousands of evacuations continue as fires rage

Thousands of people in California have been forced to abandon their homes as large wildfires in the northern and central parts of the state continue to cause causing massive destruction.

The CZU August Lightning Complex fire is among the blazes challenging firefighters and was at zero percent containment as of Wednesday afternoon.

At least 8,500 homes were threatened by the advancing flames, and officials have said firefighters are facing a number of challenges including rugged terrain and unfavourable weather conditions.

Officials say lightning over the weekend set off the fires.

I am in central valley of California. About 100 miles from 3 fires. It is overcast outside. Low smoke ceiling. And smells of smke. Staying indoors to avoid bad air!

I'm about 30 miles from the Jones fire burning near Nevada City here in the Sierra foothills. We have taken in 4 rescue horses, evacuees from the fire with more maybe coming and goats too. I feel so bad for all the animals. Pets, livestock and wild life. If you have the facilities for livestock or can foster pets please do so! You can offer your services on your local Next Door site, FB, or through other local rescue groups that can put you on a list for whatever animals you may be able to shelter. Our poor state, hell on earth with these devastating fires these past few years!

Stop making this a residential area because every year there's this massive fire here. These homeowners just file a fire insurance claim and rebuild in the same dangerous area. There is absolutely zero sense to allow this endangerment of all the human and animal lives, not to mention the lives of fire fighters saving trapped residents. It's completely unnecessary and selfish of these homeowners to place themselves in harm's way year after year.
