Great job explaining, though I imagine people will do their best to run the most power on a hpfp only.

Jake I wanna have your baby

Good info on the turbo’s. Acadia was stuck between both of those turbo options too. He linked this video. Good stuff thanks!

Awesome job explaining everything here! I had looked at going IS38 but the stories of blown turbos has got me questioning the next move. My power goals are actually pretty low(300 wheel) and my IS20 may be just fine for that!

The stock IS20 in the '15 GTI Autobahn I bought 7 months ago as a one-owner 53K mile car is apparently at deaths door at 54K. Car came running Unitronic Stage 2 which was installed (w catted DP) at around 40K. First of all, pretty (VERY) shocked that it would go at such low mileage. Secondly, naturally since it needs replacing anyway am thinking of going IS38 or something like Vortex (heard bad things re: EQT...Garrett PowerMax?) but one thing I'm not doing is putting another POS OEM IS20...what a joke. I'll check your tuning vid but it seems like MK7 people either hate or love Unitronic. I loved driving their Stage 2 in mostly city traffic and their customer service is great....maybe it's a case of I don't know what I'm missing with other tunes...?? TY cheers dude!

@GTIJake / @Baun Performance
There are definitely a number of turbos on the market, most of which you discussed that the common users go with. Do you have any input as to the HPA OEM +IS38? Since they reportedly do a few improvements to the anti-surge and wastegate? If you have any input, would be appreciated.

Really want to hear your take on tunes currently on the market. I'm in the hunt to go stage 2 is20 91oct and don't know which route to go yet but eventually wanna end up is38 in years to come. Killing it with these videos 🔥🔥

Hello YouTube car community I currently have a 2016 mk7 gti stage 2 with the following parts that I remember
-JH Motorsport downpipe
-Forge Motorsport Turbo Blanket
-APR Turbo inlet pipe
-APR Full Carbon Intake
-APR Oil Catch Can
-DKM Stage 2 clutch
-Urotuning shift knob
-VW/AUDI oem euro spec shifter (give
about 20% shorter shifting)
-Larger turbo charge pipe, hoses
-BC coilover BR series
-Enkei RPF1 with Federal RS-R
-Rtheorymotorsports fender vents
-Eurosport rear chassis brace
-ST suspension rear sway bar
- Rear spoiler extension
-AWE Track exhaust
And minor exterior and interior mods, but I am looking for more power. I will get an intercooler as my next purchase but I also want to get a new turbo would anyone have suggestions I want something good and reliable. Also they have to be a pretty decent company. Thanks any info is great have a great one and speed on.

I been wanting to know if there's a big difference from OEM IS38 VS EQT Vortex. But I'm still a bit confused. This is the break down I got so far.
OEM IS38 360WHP reliably. More power will decrease lifespan, even with fuel support mods. EQT Vortex is $799 more then OEM. And need supporting Fuel Mods to see the increase Power which drives Cost up.
But than you mention needing a $500 Custom Tune from EQT for vortex cause they don't carry a Base Map for it. Or is that with the XL only or Both? I'm looking to upgrade the turbo of my car next month. And I'm looking at both OEM IS38 Turbo and Vortex XL. Tune by APR or COBB AP with EQT. I'm a Daily Driver and plan to do Autocross on the weekends. I would like 400hp with a reliable Turbo, hence why I'm leaning towards Vortex. I don't want to do any Fuel Mods except for HPFP and keep everything Pump gas. Now if the Vortex can't produce 400hp without more fueling mods or E85 best bet is to stay OEM IS38 I guess. What's the best Bang for Buck if I want 400hp reliably on pump gas and HPFP upgrade?

Running is38 with methanol injection dynojet reading 407. I know dynojet reads slightly higher. The EQT with the xl housing is on the way...finally!

TPC20 sounds like a great option as well

Hey Jake, 93 octane is standard pump here in England, I’ve seen from other comments a upmarket intercooler is needed to keep temps under control. I really want something that’s daily friendly yet can really push when you put your foot down. I don’t want to run any other stuff. Just a daily race car. I believe is38 would be best but from a company that have fixed its oem faults. Any opinions?

Stratified might be one of the best tuners in the game. Check out BoostedMk6 with his GTX making 500hp with stock fueling and stock bottom end. WMI is the key to prevent knock and keep her cool

When it comes to reliability how do you feel about the HPA is38+ l. That’s what I run and they say (by they I mean on HPA website) you should could reliably make 400 hp to 450?

can it be expected to make 360 HP out of the box with standard tuning? Intake, IC, HF DP, inlet elbow.

Hey Jake.. I told myself that when I went stage 2 with an aftermarket downpipe and intercooler that I wouldn't be doing anymore mods. Here I am looking at a bigger turbo, guess I'm proof that it's hard to stop. What do you think about the EQT IS38? I'm currently running with EQT's stage 2 ECU tune and APR's TCU tune (long story that I'm sure you've heard before). I'd like to upgrade my turbo and I see the IS38 as the best option as I've heard from others and you that it's a good option for.a daily driver.

I got IE stage 2 for my MK7 GTI a few months ago... I would love to see your take on IE tunes. Hopefully it’s not a really bad one. 🤞🏼😅

What’s your opinion on vortex xl’s on stock motor? Seems to be a lot of people running that setup on low torque and I’d rather not build my motor just to run a hybrid. Thinking of doing 925cc mpi, rs3 brushless lpfp, and vortex xl on e85
