Toyota 2GR: Everything You Need to Know

The Toyota 2GR was an engine platform with a few different variations and offers a great amount of performance for its size. It's such a good performer, that it can even be found in supercars from Lotus and Bolwell. Although the 2GR isn't a popular engine swap, it's still a great engine.

My IS350 had the 2GR-FSE and I supercharged it to make 430whp. Great V6. Now I have the ISF with the 2UR-GSE!

This engine is specifically why I bought my wife a 2016 Highlander. It's bulletproof design, decent power, decent economy equal low maintenance and longevity. It'll easily turn 200k with little more than 5k mile oil changes and a plug change at 100k.

2GRFE(268hp) was strictly for fwd platforms where the 2GRFSE(306hp) was strictly for RWD platforms. Up until around 2017 when the 2GRFKS released and they put that into all vehicles rwd or fwd (311hp). This is for sedans/vans and excludes trucks and hybrid vehicles.

Great video. I have a 2012 Rav4 V6 and it's a rocket. And at 170, 000 miles it's been flawless.

Great family of engines. Their are some key differences between them though and parts aren't interchangeable. One key reason why this engine is popular is it can access 90% of its torque at 1300Revs. The FSE has 30 bolts holding the crank and they designed it to run 12 injectors from factory. The thing these engines really need is to be sleeved or run a close deck. Sadly they don't have a lot of hype and thus limited aftermarket support but the potential is available.

Those who don't know, the 2gr-fe has a 10.81:1 compression ratio. It needs 91 octane to run like it should and to last long. It will also increase your mpg.

The VVTi-W on the FKS I've heard allows it to switch in and out of Atkinson cycle rather than just being in Otto or Atkinson full time like the earlier versions.

They are great engines i wish they had the aftermarket support like the vq I honestly think the fse can out do a vq35hr but not much u can do apart from ppe headers n supercharger or go the more expensive custom turbo route either way love this v6 its a great platform to build on in Japan they use them in D1 pushing over 1000hp

2GR is an awesome motor! I've been in an '08 sienna with that engine, that thing is smooth, powerful, responsive & plain bulletproof! That thing never broke down on the trip my beloved minivan goes to, from LA to orlando! I missed it!

I have a 2010 FJ cruiser with the 1GR, and a 2015 lexus RX350 with the 2GR, both have just 60, 000 miles on them. Never selling them. In fact, really don't expect to need to buy another car for the rest of my life. I also have a 2003 hilux with the 2.7 2TR-FE, with just over 100, 000 miles. All assembled in Japan.

I'm in New Zealand and have a Blade Master, which is a flash Corolla really, but with the 2GR FE under the hood. A real sleeper, as it looks like every other small car out there, but will run a 14 second quarter mile. Amazingly economical too, Just a pity that damned rattle at startup is virtually impossible to fix. Biut, a beautiful engine otherwise,

Actually the first 2gr-fe made 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque but the sae changed the testing standards the next year.
