ARP Minus Noise Is My Favourite Synthesizer Mixer

preview_player
Показать описание
The Arp Minus Noise Mixer Model 8 from 1976 seems like it's designed with synthesizers in mind unlike any mixer today. It has many creative features that I see making most sense with people that enjoy experimenting with sound. It can be clean as whistle and dirty as a Metalzone. In this video I explore its features and give my thoughts why I consider it the best mixer for synths.

I do wish the hardware audio manufacturers would start making creative mixers. With built in filters, multi-mode saturation, compressors, limiters. Before Elektron announced the Syntakt, I was hoping it would be something like that. 8 channel stereo mixer, with dual SVVFs per channel and Analog Heat style drive/saturation/distortion, some BBD delays, analog chorus plus a master compressor/limiter. But at least with Eurorack, you can design your own now.

instant gabber machine! around 15-20 years before the fact, too. these people had to have known what they were doing, giving people this much of an opportunity to get that much *crunch*, or just cause major bass-induced earthquakes.
what a remarkable device overall!

What a cool thing! I've never heard of it before now. I would love to hear some direct feedback through those meaty preamps and that spring verb. I'm glad Knobs could take a break from making cool pedals to get it where it belongs!

Just got one I got one a year or so ago for $300 US! Now the price will rise more! YES!

Nice!
- Dynamic Noise Filters are often overlooked, but I've been using a Drawmer DF320 on noisy synthesizers for the last 3 decades+, - it's a superb piece of outboard, it also works well at giving sounds a sense of distance, - when abused.

It did wonderful things to the percussion, loved the overdriven sound.

I saw this mixer !! I forgot where I saw there ad but I knew it was a score. Funny that you bought it!!
I've been using a 1987 Yamaha RM602 mixer for my synth mixing, works well and got at a bargain of $60. Vintage mixers are underrated gems

The Befaco Hexmix gets you pretty far – 6 channels, stereo, L/M/H EQ per channel, master EQ, three sends. Take one of the sends into a reverb tank, and that remains to add is an envelope follower/gate after the stereo out and you should have these features more or less. Plus it has a great VCA extender module and you can add a (4 channel I believe?) stereo mixer onto it. Bonus: it is available, it is much smaller, it has mute switches, and it is new. I would love to have you try this & compare.

Wow! Great find!
That mixer really glues all of the different synths together. And I love that analog overdrive sound. I know you're going to have a lot of fun with that one in the future.

What a meaty devil. Should be called "The ARP Plus Bass Mixer"

The rhythmic gating is a wonderful side effect, had no idea it did that.

Faders - are they not the same ARP faders used on later synths like Odyssey mkIII, Axxe II, ProDGX, Omni II etc?

It wouldn't surprise me if they just reused their stock faders from something else. Nathan at Synthchaser will likely be able to advise.

Funny I was just looking at one for sale out of Toronto, unless there are multiple listed there…I found WA state to have an amazing resource of underpriced vintage synth gear, ME state is great for underpriced 40’s-50’s tube amplifiers.

Such a cool mixer, I wish they weren’t so expensive. I picked up a Zoom R16 “multipurpose” mixer to multitrack on the go, and it works wonderfully for what I do.
Awesome vid Hainbach, always love your content :)

"Bam Everything."- Hainbach.
Perfect quote for future merch.
I use a Kawaii MX-8R keyboard mixer at the moment, which was designed (I believe) as a rack mixer for synths. But...no effects, and certainly nothing as wonderful as the sounds I just heard has ever come out of it.

My personal weapon of choice is the Tascam 414 mkii. As a tape machine it's limiting but as a mixer it is incredible.

Check out FCPRO. They can build a custom mixer, to any spec. I'm sure they could build a greatly expanded version of this, with full stereo everything, including a stack of auxes.
