Born Survivors: An Encore Book & Author Program at Illinois Holocaust Museum

"Born Survivors: Three Young Mothers and Their Extraordinary Story of Courage, Defiance and Hope" is an international best-seller that reveals the astonishing true story of three mothers who conceived children in Bratislava and the ghettos of Terezín and Lodz, hid their pregnancies from Dr. Mengele in Auschwitz, and then, nearly starved and worked to death, gave birth en route to the notorious Mauthausen concentration camp.

On May 10, 2016, two of the "babies"--Hana Moran and Mark Olsky--as well as the book's best-selling and internationally acclaimed author, Wendy Holden, shared their personal stories at Illinois Holocaust Museum.

I read this book about a year ago...it is one of the books that has affected me mostly. I am amazed by the human spirit to survive beyond imagination and the love of a mother...I have two children and I know just the thought of them would keep me alive for them! There are no words that can truly express the magnitude of this story and the story of so many others.
