Well, it all comes down to history. Purple was incredibly expensive, even more valuable than gold until the 1800s. This color symbolized power, wealth, and royalty for centuries. In fact, Queen Elizabeth I restricted its use only to the royal family.

The reason for its elite status was the dye used to create it. Initially, it came from a rare sea snail in Tyre, modern-day Lebanon. It took over 10,000 snails to make just one gram of dye! This made purple a luxury only the wealthiest could afford.
