Another reason was because purple is closely associated with royalty and therefor win the modern age with republicanism and democracy monarchy’s became less common and didn’t want their flag to use a colour that associated with their ideological opponents, the only exception to this was the Spanish republic which had purple in its flag until 1939 after the Spanish civil war.
