Are you holding your own bass playing back and don't even know it?!

This is a serious issue for so many bass players and is unfortunately something I see time and time again. In fact I believe many bass players are their own worst enemy!

In this lesson I'm going to tell you about how I actually held myself back for years, and although I thought I'd overcome this problem, it seems I haven't!

he who asks a question is a fool for 5 minutes. He who never asks a question remains a fool forever..

I thought this video would be about the correct way of holding a bass guitar. About 3/4 into the video, I was wondering when will you start explaining it. But it turned out to be even better! Thanks. Then I re-read the title, and finally got it :D

I am a teacher and now I am going to show this video to my classes when I get back from winter holiday. I know my high school students don't always believe me when I say stuff like this, but having somebody as awesomely skilled as you San be a big encouragement. Thanks!

That is the exact thing that has held me back my entire life. I don't do well in crowds, I never spoke up up in school. I thankfully did well in school, because it was easy for me. I just bought my first bass, and I'm 56. I'm attempting to learn on my own, but thankfully I have a few friends that play bass that are helping. YOU are helping me greatly! And thank you for giving us the opportunity to ask you for help!

I have had the same experience. I've watched my teacher tear up a riff and I was afraid to ask how he did that. Thanks Scott, I've learned so much from you. I feel I've grown as a bass player since I've been watching your videos.

Hey man, thanks for watching. Transcribing is super important but also 'analyzing' each bass line to... so trying to understand how and why the bass line works. That means - when you're creating your own bass line you can simply use the same techniques they've used to create theirs. Hope that helps man :)

"Scott, Thank you for lettin me be myself, ... again" I did the same things as a kid, very shy, and rarely felt secure enough to ask when I did not understand, and that was many times. You have offered the gift to no condemnation, and this freedom causes others to be free to be who they are, and discover what they do not understand, and not to feel stupid if they do not understand. Freedom is a great gift. Bravo Sir. Bravo.

Scott, you show more and more that the compleat bassist is also a compleat human being. Your holistic approach to lessons is great—it gives everyone multiple touchstones, next steps, and a solid foundation on which to build the shed.

It means so much to me to hear Scott say this, my personality is quite similar to what he described. I have advanced chops on the bass but honestly no basic understanding of the fundamentals of music or theory. I want to better understand the bass guitar and music fundamentals !!!
