not hamsters, but guinea pigs were actually originally domesticated to be eaten and are still commonly eaten. we called them guinea pigs cuz they supposedly taste like pork and guinea actually used to be a slur for dark skinned people so its basically "dark person's pig"

Best part about this is that there is a chance you find a cooked miniature giant space hamster in the creche which can be used for camp supplies which confirms the fact that Boo is a miniature giant space hamster or that they exist anyway.
