The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that it will send more than one million polio vaccines to Gaza after the virus was detected in wastewater amid Israel’s ongoing onslaught.
On 31 July, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that "it is only a matter of time" before thousands of children in Gaza are infected with polio.
Since Israel began its bombardment of Gaza in October, there have been repeated warnings about the possible outbreak of viral epidemics as a result of the destruction of health, water and sewage infrastructure.
