Pharisees Are Not What You Think They Are

People have the wrong idea about Pharisees. They accuse anyone who points out their sin as being Pharisees. But that would make Jesus and John the Baptist Pharisees. A Pharisee is a self righteous person who puts on an external front of being righteous when in fact they are not. They also add their own traditions and laws to the bible, oppress the poor and devour widows houses.

A Pharisee is a person who believes they are righteous by keeping a set of manned laws and traditions.

great point. this is a very common insult for someone who is more carnal to throw at someone who is trying to issue a loving rebuke

We are to judge righteously and point out sin. If we judge and we are guilty of the same sins, we are a hypocrite.

A Pharisee is one who is religious but does not believe on Jesus Christ alone for salvation and think that their own works are necessary to salvation. There is no other way to be holy and righteous than to have Jesus wash away your sins and give you eternal life.

Yeah a pharisee is anyone who trusts in themselves that they are righteous (Luke 18:9 KJV)

Aka anyone who says “you need to repent of your sins for salvation” or “you’ll repent of your sins if you truly have salvation”

Trust in the Lord. This is the true gospel of grace that the Lord brought

First the bad news. hell is real, and SADLY no one deserves not to go there. Sin to you might not seem so bad, but in God’s clear sight it’s abhorrent. So just committing 1 sin is deserving of hell. And it’s no secret that everyone has committed sin. When we have a guilty conscience, that bears witness to the fact we have sinned.

BUT God didn’t make us just to send us to hell. He wanted to us to experience love and and the whole range with him. But sin is a barrier. So to get rid of that barrier, he sent his Son Jesus Christ to live the
*perfect life* 1
we couldn’t and
*pay for all of our sins* 2
And then Jesus Christ rose from death to *justify* 3
us in God’s sight.

Keep in mind the words that were starred and numbered
If we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (even if it’s just for a split second of our life), we are saved from hell. Because to believe in something means to have the entire substance of that thing, imputed or given to you. Stocks or shares are a great example of this. And you will never lose your salvation no matter what, according to the Lord’s promise (john 6:37, john 6:39, john 10:28 KJV)

You are saved by believing on Jesus Christ because those *starred things* that I just mentioned, are all imputed to you. Plus much more than that.

So here’s this prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ. I am a sinner deserving of hell. So I trust on you alone to save me from hell because you are savior. I believe you died for all of my sins, past, present, and future. And I believe you rose again for my justification.” Amen

Once we follow God’s word and confront sin (starting with Mathew 18:15 KJV), and the offender still won’t repent, then we are to continue with following Mathew 18:16-17KJV. The goal is to win the unrepentant sinner (the offender) over to the truth so they can be united with God, and then we can be united in truth with them (the truth is Christ)!

Wow, I’ve been in many different kinds of churches and have listened to many pastors of large churches and have ALWAYS understood Pharisees to be this man’s second definition. NEVER have I heard Pharisee describe the first way.

Not every Pharisee did this. There were Pharisees who supported what Jesus taught. Pharisees are teachers of the word. But there was a part of the Pharisees who added their own opinion apart from God's word.

Yes. A Pharisee is someone who does the same or other sins and see no issues in themselves ☦️🙏💔

Yes, you're absolutely right. This is what Jesus said about the Pharisees in Luke 12:1:

"
In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy."

Wait what ????

Teachers and experts of the law
1. Pharisees = Experts of the law, responisble for teaching the people. Believed in afterlife, resurrection and angels
2. Sadducees = Primary priest hood function and admin in Temple. Rejected the oral tradition and idea of resurrection.
3. Scribes = Also experts of Jewish law like pharisees but served as legal experts, scholars and interpreters. Crucial in preserving, copying and transmitting the sacred texts.

And you also have
4. Essenes = Dessert community focused on strict practicing the law and preserved the dead sea scrolls.
5. Zealots = Radical political group that fought the Romans
6. Herodians = Political faction supporting Herods dynasty

I love how the Bible says you either have to be hot or cold not lukewarm there are so many so-called Christians out there today they talked the talk but do not walk the walk and only want to live by certain parts of the Bible we may not understand it all on this Earth if it's something we wouldn't do if Jesus was right in front of us then we shouldn't do it Jesus loves y'all❤

It also could describe anyone that is just practicing religion and not relationship with Christ. Torah Observant, Calvinists, Armenians, etc

Also, I have never heard anyone call a pharisee, like ever.

When I tell people about sin and how I came to know Christ I tell them about my sin my addiction my thinking 3 years ago it took me three years to break some addiction but I remain faithful it’s hard without a doubt but I Love Jesus and I have Faith in him I tell them I’m not Good I make mistakes brother and sister I am a sinner. But this sinner knows who saved him from the pit who look down at the sheep who left the Ninty nine and saw me lost in the ditch and picked me up his blood is my forgiveness for my sins but I tell not just mine but yours

It is more and more common that when we confront someone they will try to turn it around and falsely accuse of being judgment or of being a Pharesee! But what is funny is that in order to accuse us of being judgmental/Pharisee, they had to have judged us😂!
Once people follow God’s word and confront sin (starting with Mathew 18:15 KJV), and the offender still won’t repent, then we are to continue with following Mathew 18:16-17KJV.
