So many great groups in the late 70's, 80's & early 90's. Black music is at it's best when we put our hearts & soul into the lyrics. The power to move one in a positive, joyful way comes partly in the things we've shared & endured as a people.

The whole world slept in this song. So brilliantly done. A timeless classic no doubt about it.

I am a Musician and currently Produce Artist in and around the Metro Detroit area. Just wanted to share some of my knowledge and my love for probably my favorite band - The Dazz Band... I fell in love with them ( KINSMAN DAZZ ) from the first time I heard them - I gave them a listen when I saw that they were produced by Phillip Bailey of my favorite group at that time - EWF... I MIGHT AS WELL FORGET ABOUT LOVING YOU had me hooked... Not only did it have that EWF/P. Bailey influence...  I fell in love with Kenny Pettus, who sang most of the lead vocals b4 Skip joined the group... His falsetto was off the chains awesome and his natural voice was great also.. I feel he could have fronted any singing group during that era... Their next album with Kenny singing CATCHING UP ON LOVE only made me love them even more... On their next album I think Pierre DeMudd came on board, and just like Kenny he had me hooked with his awesome falsetto and also could have fronted any singing group  ...  But when I heard Skip Martin on that same album and they became THE DAZZ BAND, they officially became my favorite band. Skip's voice was just so smooth and strong, he basically became their main lead vocalist. Even though I definitely love me some Kenny and Pierre, you could not deny Skip's ability... Now throughout the years until now,  I have had some bands that was just about on the DAZZ BAND / EWF level such as Pleasure / The Time / Cameo / Prince  and a few others, but to me only MINT CONDITION had me feeling the way DAZZ / EWF did. I think it was all those amazing vocals that put DAZZ over the top... Skip / Kenny / Pierre along with the other guys helping on backgrounds, made them unstoppable... I saw them live and they were just as good vocally or better than the albums... The band with Skip and Pierre on trumpet, Bobby Harris on sax along with Kenny on percussion was just crazy... Everyone played an instrument and just about everybody helped out singing background vocals, once again that was just crazy... Even though they had some great uptempo songs LET IT WHIP was by far their most successful song commercially and radio airplay, but I think they had the best ballads ever. If their record label or marketing dept. could have recognized and exploited the ballads they recorded, they could have been mega, mega superstars...  Man I could comment forever on my boys, but would like to hear if anybody else feels like I do about the most underrated group in the history of music - THE DAZZ BAND let me hear from you ...
