If you get a clean mop head and just cut the strands off. Some mop heads can be dismantled easily leaving you with 90+ cm strands to do that job.

You can just use an old cloth in the same way and than clean the chain with it too

I remove the cassette and give the cogs a scrub. It’s easy.
