He didn't celebrate though out of respect for the opposition. Touch of class from the lad...

The best part is that after losing the title, th Besiktas president called the referee and told him it wasn’t the refs fault and it was a mistake anyone would make

That is probably the most hype but most depressing goal at the same time. Props to the referee.

Worst feeling for the referee, when their mistake cost the team a title.

That's why referees don't position inside the box. What was he doing there to begin with?

It also happened in Brazil in 1983 and was scored by José de Assis Aragão, during a Palmeiras x Santos match.

As a Beşiktaş fan I believe the referee deserves the player of the match

In Brazil we had a club's massagist clearing a goal at the 89th minute of a round of 16 match for our 4th division. We also had a game that ended 0.5 x 0, because the shot was so potent the ball opened. The goalkeeper defended a shot and held the ball, but the shot was so strong that the inner tube of air escaped from the leather lining (it was the 50's). The goalkeeper ended up holding only the lining, while the inner tube entered the goal. The referee then decided it was half a goal, so the game ended half to zero.

Similar thing happened in Mexico (LigaMX), but instead a ref deflected a goal bound shot and it wasn’t counted. The game was Cruz Azul vs Toluca in Guardianes 2021

If you're scrolling these comments wondering:
"Wth happened here? Why is there a debate on soccer / football."
Well I'll explain. Hundreds of americans were spamming the comments with "It's soccer" NONSTOP. Now the inverse is happening, where people are arguing why football makes more sense.

So it's not just random bickering, it did start somewhere. Ofc it is dumb (and ofc americans are the root of it) but now you have the context at least.
