Mr. Beat explains how members of the United States Congress are older now than at any point in American history. Oh, and politicians used to go against the Constitution by putting people into Congress who were too young. Put that in your Constitution and smoke it.

Here's an annotated script of this video:

The United States Congress has never been older than it is right now.

Even though half of the country is under the age of 38, only about 5% of Congress is. The average age of a U.S. Representative is 58 years old. The average of a U.S. Senator is 64. Sure, most people know that Joe Biden, at 80 years old, is the oldest president in American history, but what they don’t know is that there are currently FOURTEEN members of Congress OLDER than him.

For comparison, the average age of the delegates at the Constitutional Convention was just 42.

In fact, members of Congress used to be TOO young. The Constitution says you have to be at least 30 years old to be in the Senate and 25 years old to be in the House
but the country has had FOUR U.S. Senators under 30, and possibly FIVE U.S. Representatives being under 25, with this dude (William C.C. Claiborne) possibly being as young as 22 when he first took office.

Should there be congressional term limits?

If politicians are gonna get away with anything, I'd be happy for that crime to be "being too young"

Wish getting older still meant getting wiser. These days it just means getting more stubborn.

50% of the age demographic is only represented by 5% of Congress, that is wild

Boomer here...

America needs to vote two groups OUT of office. Seniors and the wealthy. Our government needs to reflect our population.

What Mr Beat is saying, is young people need to run for office!

I'm 28. My rep is 57. Maybe I should challenge her...

It’s long overdue to put the career politicians out of business. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

My father had to retire at 65, he even got permission to do a trip over his birthday. He was a intentional airline captain. If 65 is too old to control a airplane, then 65 is too old to make decisions and control our country.

Meanwhile in the UK, there was once a 13 year old who sat in parliament.
