Solution is easy:
30 year minimum sentence for anyone involved in this crime.
If possibility if getting shot wasn't possible when invading someone's home, then there would have been a break in every house once a week.

Diesel isn't easy to ignite. As a matter of fact you can throw a burning match into pool of diesel and it doesn't ignite. Lighter also can't do.
On the other hand gasoline is extremely flammable. It also evaporates easily and the vapor mixed with air burns explosively (read: explodes). I think the bladder tracks are dangerous when carrying gasoline, but much less so when carrying diesel.
