What is the Ascension of Jesus? Why is it important?

Forty days after Jesus rose from the dead, he ascended into heaven. What exactly does the Ascension mean and why is it important?

In the Book of Acts we read:

"'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.' When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight."
Acts 1:8-9

There are at least three reasons the Ascension is important to us:

1. Jesus is in heaven.

In the Apostles' Creed we say that Jesus "ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

Many heresies have arisen throughout history trying to separate Jesus's humanity and divinity. The Ascension of Jesus' body and soul solidify the truth about Jesus. He is fully God and fully man.

2. The Holy Spirit is here.

We are not alone. We have the Holy Spirit.

The Coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost follows shortly after the Ascension. This was the promise Jesus made before his ascension.

What will the Holy Spirit help us do? The Spirit will lead us to become the witnesses of the life of Christ throughout the world.

3. Jesus will come again.

After the Ascension angels say to the disciples, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven." (Acts 1:11)

When we think about heaven, we usually think about our soul in heaven after we die, but we will also experience the resurrection of the body when Jesus returns.

Our bodies will be raised and taken up to heaven with Jesus at the Second Coming of Christ.

Luke shows that Jesus ascended on the day of his resurrection in contrast to Acts.
(Compare Luke 24:1, 13, 33, 49-52 with Acts 1:3).

Today May 18th, 2023, is the Feast of the Ascension, The Ascension of Jesus, Ascension Thursday, Holy Thursday, or Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord — this is a Christian holiday that doubles as a public holiday in many countries like Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, and more. It is 40 days from the Resurrection of Christ Jesus, and then 10 days later, will be the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles in the Upper Room.

I'm back by not by the spirit for I am Christ in only a man who is made low yet call into my father and he will revivel that Jesus is a normal man and before some decides to do it to a point to get my father to send and gather us in truth before judgement is handed over to the house of Israel who denied Christ. For this is a message of hope to those who believe and obey my father for you will see I am not against nor out of my mind just made low to look anti but that's not the truth.

listening to christian doctrine, it always seems like god’s son jesus stole the show and then stole everything else too .

in this exact video, the presenter says “jesus is seated at god’s right”...but we never hear much more than this about god from christians. Instead, we hear of the son and holy spirit. christians say they are 3 in 1, the trinity, but we christians only talk about 2 out of 3 of those which are the son and holy spirit but not of god. in christian doctrine, god is marginalized and forgotten
