Warning to anyone that decides to read this manga, this is not a horror manga. Make sure you're in the right mindset to read this manga. It's the most depressing thing I've read in a while. Main character eats shit from start to current. And if you're an immersive reader like I am, ready your day for sadness....

This reminds me of my mom, how she appears so loving and kind at one moment and terrifying, cruel and cold the next. As a child I couldn't stand up to her. But as an adult I got so sick of her gaslighting I stopped all interaction with her even though I still live in the same house. The few friends I told never understood, and thought I was simply an unforgiving daughter. It's crazy how easy it is for parents to abuse their power over their children.

To me, the most terrifying thing in this manga wasn't the mother herself, but the influence she has on the main character. The way he switches between being scared of her and wanting to run away and wanting nothing else but her approval. It's such a great representation on how abusive relationships work. This manga really captures the feeling of being trapped.

That Mom's face when she turns when the kid calls her made me tear up. Fucking terrifying.

Edit: I just watched this video a second time. I cried more this time than the first, holy shit. I have never seen a more threatening face, it looks like she's gonna kill me through the screen. Jesus.

I really like psycho horror. Jumpscare or gore horror is boring to me, but I love having an existential crisis after a game/movie

idk why but that type of creeping horror reminds me of something I'd heard a good several times growing up; "go cry in the other room." I cried when I felt overwhelmed w homework, life, trivial shit, etc. and my parents would tell me to go cry somewhere else. something about that feeling of being robbed of comfort when I needed it the most, even if it was over something stupid. it sorta conditioned me into being embarrassed about crying, especially in front of people. just. being scared of being abandoned, invisible, nonexistent. that no one would care if I cried, and if I got attention from it, it was wrong.

"Seiko.. you've drained all of everyone's happiness and took it all by yourself."

This quote is one of the meanest thing i've read and probably one of the meanest thing you could ever say to someone, especially your child

18:45 God that image has stayed with me after I finished reading that manga. The way Shuzo Oshimi captured that facial expression of someone losing their sanity is terrifying and impressive. Those eyes have a soul in them, but its slowly fading

Ito Junji's "The Bully" also does a similar thing, where for me, the horror is the fact that it's realistic. This isn't some cosmic horror or monster out to get you. This is a real person. This could be someone's reality. What makes these types of stories scary... Is that they're realistic.

It’s weird how fear has evolved into us being more afraid of other humans, rather than natural phenomenons

The irony is that despite parental abuse being a rare, taboo theme in horror, it's not difficult to find firsthand stories of it in real life.

this manga was nuts. the way he portrayed all the various anxiety-peaking trauma-induced psychosis scenes was shocking accurate. how the abuse of the mother turns on the self and becomes internalized (it’s my fault), how he lashes out without understanding why, how all he can think about is her, conditional lovebombing and subsequent rejection, the unspoken desperation for love…

beautifully drawn, even more impressively told

There’s nothing more terrifying than an evil human, forget about demons, ghosts, vampires, etc. The real stuff is the most terrifying
