I think Kovu rescuing Kiara from the fire is a bad example of Kovu's protective instincts since that fire was made on purpose to endanger Kiara and allow Kovu to rescue her. I think a better example would have been when they met as cubs and helped each other escape the crocodiles. There wasn't a plan to stage anything they were both themselves in that moment.

Alternative theory based on the Lion King universe, Chumvi and Kula could the real parents of Kovu. Chumvi and Kula were Nala’s childhood friends in the Lion King Six New Adventures books but they’re not considered canon once again, they’re semi canon. Just my opinion

I personally think Nuka is Scar's only biological son. Kovu isn't Scar's son, he was just groomed to take the throne by Zira, who mated with Scar and had Nuka. Vitani and Kovu could have been Chumvi's cubs with Zira (or Kula)

Personally, I like the theory that he's related to the Night Pride! Tho I think Zira is definitely his mother, as he clearly inherited her nose, which, shape-wise is present in some of the Night Pride members, but (unlike Zira) none of theirs are black, so I think her genes are responsible for that trait in Kovu. I'd absolutely believe she could've mated with a member of the Night Pride at some point in their travels tho, It's an interesting theory to think about!

Also the night pride was made as an after thought after the lion king 2 so maybe they were designed a little after Kovu? So it would make sense they maybe be related or his parents may of come from there. Though he could still be Chumvi and Kulas cub as well like either of those theories work

Makes sent in fact my best supposition as to kovu's parentage was the he was the youngest cub of Rani and balioo's family meaning he is Rani's baby brother it is what most fis as we see in the Lion guard Rani's parents are dead

I can get behind this but magor plot point fo Ziras plan was to save Kiara from the fire so he will be welcomed into pride lands. that was a dirty plan not much Kovus habit to protect.

when Disney animation carefully crafts a character vs letting CGI create soulless renders that are supposed to be characters.

Lion King remake detracts from characterizations. putting realism above story telling and character expression.
Mufasa CGI does a better job of letting the CGI have some emotions but still fails to have the subtle traits that are naturally expressed in animation.
and those subtleties are not a restriction on the technology. Rocket Raccoon's CGI is proof of that. Its the understanding of the character and transferring that understanding into the CGI.

All that just to say that its easy to miss the connections that should be noticed when things are done right.
The Animated versions are the better story telling medium because the animators are able to put those deeper meanings into the visuals, words, and actions.

The likely hood of Kovu being related to the Night pride Lions could be correct. and if so, the Plot for the Next Lion King Movie revolving around Kovu's litter can basically write itself.
a story people would be more interested in and being a sequel and new story would mean there is less to worry about in regards to having character motivations being expressed wrong
(something Disney remakes cant seem to stop themselves from doing and missing the point of those characters. changing them into things they are not and thus not a good story anymore)

you see i knew it, Kovu he looks very different from other Prides of Lions in the Pride Lands, you can see that Kovu he has Brown fur just like the Night Pride, and Also the way i look at Baliyo, he has the same Size Brown mane just like Kovu, so that means they are the Same Pride, so Kovu his real Home it's in the Tree of Life, 🌳 and that is Also means that Kovu he is part of the Night Pride.🌳
