actually, In the lion guard series (Season 3 episode 1) it says that Scar was bitten by a snake and was scarred as a result. of course there are multiple origin stories but I consider this one cannon since they actually showed him getting bitten.

The books aren't canon, the only canon theories are : he got bitten by a venomous snake which made him lose control and Mufasa instead of seeking a cure he nicknames him Scar and in The 2019 remake, Scar asks Mufasa "do i want you to challenge you, again ?, , or something like that. I think he got bitten by the snake because the season 3 of The Lion Guard came out 2 months after the remake was released
