Fixing a door that catches on the floor #shorts #tracksaw #festool

Track saws can be handy for many purposes and this is a perfect example.

If you have a door that is catching or rubbing on the floor. There are some things you should check first before cutting the door. Is the door jamb plumb? Can the hinges be adjusted or are they worn out and sagging?

In this case, it was a 100 year home that we bought to renovate as a rental. The hinges had many years of paint but were solid. I determined the problem was not the door or the jamb but a slightly high place on the floor. This spot on the floor was undetectable to the eye but when you opened the door it would hit. It was a great quick fix to allow the door to be in full open position.

There’s a reason he didn’t show us what it looked like when he was done

Don't do this. Pull the door off in 30 seconds, lay flat on saw horses and cut the same way without risking scratching a high gloss floor and fussing with clamps.

Adjust the hinges first, this is the last thing I would do.

Bad, adjust the door, cutting bottom off leads to door being too small, the doesn't seal.

If you cut one side of a French door pair you have to cut the other side because when it is in the closed position it's going to be shorter than the other one

Or you know. Readjust the hinge like a normal person.

Lol the contractor that charges you $200 bucks to do something a nice guy would end up doing probono

Great idea. One trick that I found to be useful, is to put a small, folded, thin piece of cardboard behind the hinge, that is sagging. Most likely the bottom hinge of that door. The hinge that is attached to the frame, not the door. You can see which hinge is causing the issue when the door is shut. Take that tidbit of advice however you’d like. Still a great idea though. Simple and straight to the point. Another trick in the bag.

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would do it this way. When it's 2 or 3 pins and you can lay it flat, outside, not on top of a hardwood floor.

few people are gonna have a saw like that with the blade being the very outside edge of the tool so cutting this way will be an unlikely option, for most..its simple though. take the door off the hinges, make the same cut. Put the door back.
