Traeger Grill Problems with temp control

This grill is 3 months old. It has been a pain from day one. Traeger service has been hard to get to actually warranty any parts and now its having this issue with uncontrollable temperatures. This is the 3rd smoke I have had this issue. The first few cooks went great but now its a pain in the butt having to shut it off to cool down to restart to pull the temp back down. I have cleaned the chute(vacuumed) all the bottom of the grill. Everything I can think of. Thinking Campchef would have been a better purchase for my $700. :(

Thank you. Cleaned my inside probe and worked like a charm.

Yes! I am having the same problem. It runs fine on any other setting but when I stick it on smoke the temp just keeps climbing and climbing until it shuts itself down. Any answers?

Todays date is May 28, 2022, been having this issue with my tailgater for 4 years since I bought it….this grill is a piece of shit. Don’t buy traeger. You would think, spending more for a grill would result in a better product.

Same issue here, they sent me a new temperature control and control rod. Temperature now climbs to about 200 in smoke cycle but stays steady. I'm afraid to set it and forget it like they advertise. The last time the temperature kept climbing till it was out of control with flame shooting out! Very scary! Do not know if I will ever trust it without constant supervision! For the price of it I am very dissapointed! P.s. no p settings on this model and no error codes and yes stove is perfectly clean!

Mine would go over 230* on smoke. Called Traeger, they sent out another Controller. It helped bring the temp down but it was still over 200 on smoke.

In a forum I came across people mentioned the auger, did it have a shaft running down the center of it or not. I looked at mine and it didn't have a shaft running down the center.

This shaft is only about 3 inches long, but what it does is limit the amount of pellets that initially go into the hopper.

I removed the grate and pellets, then placed a piece of high temp silicone hose over the nub to represent a shaft.
Fired it up on smoke and for over a hour and a half it bounced between 152 to 174. Traeger says the smoke setting should run between 150 and 180 degrees.

Now I am looking for a auger with that partial shaft in it .

I did remove it, and temps went back up over 200 in smoke

They’ve had a batch of bad controllers, opinion. I got an older one, never a problem. A friend of mine bought a new one. They sent a new controller. Still had temp swings. Sent a new auger, same. Sent fan, same.
Finally sent a whole new grill, same. Changed to Savanah stoker. Problem solved.
Can’t tell me that some of those controllers weren’t trash. They did come out with a new one that everybody says works good.

When I turn it on and set the temperature it works fine, but whenever I turn it up higher (example 250 turned up to 350), it "shut's off and the temp goes down, how do I stop this from happening?

Did you figure out how to resolve this issue?

Same issue on my tailgater from day one. Swapped the entire box with another and same issue. Dealer called their contact and apparently they just came out with the pro style control for the tailgater. I will see once it arrives.

i snagged one of the side of the road, tried it out last night and it was running very hot. i pulled the controller out to check it for problems and noticed it has a reset button hidding under the "call for service" so i went youtubing around looking for info on the button.
