I agree with the sentiments you describe but still gloomy about the future is figma. Very hard to see Figma keeping its current charm under the CC umbrella.

I honestly see it as a good thing. Figma not being allowed to import psd, ai files, no integration for after effects animations was a real headache for designers, plus a bunch of counterintuitive things (like masking with the object to be masked on the back). I think all Figma's potential plus the experienced Adobe team will make something great. My only thought is what about Adobe XD? you're not gonna have 2 apps that essentially do the same right?. Will be nice to see what they do with that... probably after drama passes they will integrate the best things of Figma into XD and that's it

It's a good thing for Figma as a company but I still feel it's a bad thing for designers, in my opinion. Figma is so light and accessible, especially for small-time designers like me. Unlike a well-established agency, I can't afford to subscribe to Adobe CC and I fear that the best features of Figma will sooner or later be locked behind a hefty monthly subscription.

As you say, we are an opinionated bunch. I'm off to explore some other apps, just in case.
